One Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality. When shooting handheld with shorter shutter rates, optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to decrease the impression of camera wobble for better pictures. This stabilization technique can also be used with sensor-shift image stabilization on some cameras for more effective control of camera blur. Because the lens does not change length during operation, an internal focus mechanism contributes to faster, more rapid autofocus, a minimum focus distance of 9.8", and better handling.
